Community building and engagement: nwb coordinates paint the town and rake up boise two of the largest community revitalization programs in the pacific northwest that lend a helping hand to our senior and disabled neighbors by painting their homes and raking their yards. As home prices and property taxes increase in the boise msa and inflation is high, more elderly and disabled homeowners are unable to properly maintain their homes and yards due to financial and physical constraints. Our solution is to coordinate these annual volunteer events that: a) revitalize homes and yards to reduce health and safety hazards for these vulnerable populations, b) enhance the appearance of neighborhoods, c) statistically increase the physical and mental health of local residents and build a sense of community as they help others, and d) enable low-income senior and disabled homeowners to maintain their independence longer.paint the town - each june, hundreds of community volunteers paint and fix up the homes for senior and disabled residents in ada county. Since the program began 41 years ago, 91,694 volunteers have contributed an estimated 487,498 hours brightened the lives of 3,506 senior and disabled homeowners. In 2023, we painted 26 homes with the help of 27 teams, totaling over 450 volunteers.rake up boise - every november, thousands of volunteers rake and winterize yards of our senior and disabled neighbors. Since this program's inception in 1985, over 176,245 volunteers have raked and winterized the yards of over 22,566 senior and disabled households. In 2022, over 4,000 energetic volunteers served more than 800 households through this program.
Financial and homebuyer education and counseling: in-person homebuyer seminars are designed to educate potential first-time home buyers. The curriculum includes budget/credit, mortgage lending and loan options, shopping for a home, inspection, insurance, title/escrow, closing, and post-purchase responsibilities. The one-on-one counseling includes budgeting and credit management for those who need extra help preparing for homeownership.
