Mission

The NC Climate Justice Collective cultivates a multi-racial, intergenerational grassroots movement ecosystem to address the root causes of climate change. Using popular education and cultural organizing, we ignite social transformation. We center all our work in the leadership of youth, Black, Indigenous and people of color, women, low wealth people, and LGBTQI+ people to create strategic alignment. We are bringing an end to fracked gas infrastructure, coal ash pollution, industrial agriculture and forest destruction while planting the seeds of a life-sustaining, regenerative society.

Resiliency HubsOrganized our Resiliency Organizing Hubs, comprising 21 rural (Tier 1) counties, to engage in voter education, non-partisan GOTV and voter protection to drive a climate justice agenda: we hosted or supported more than 60 voter education events to ensure we were reaching areas with historically lower voter turnout & voter suppression; registered 1163 new voters; we had 1825 completed conversations and 4200 door knocks; we used the Hub dialer app to attempt 18000 calls, 1900 of which resulted in conversations; we completed 8300 text conversations out of 16,000 attempts. TapRoot Expanded our TapRoot Cultural Troupe to create art to move our movement: 1. Organized our Ballots and Balance Roadshow, a nine-event dynamic cultural arts tour designed to raise awareness about climate issues and the power of democracy. Finding Our Balance, an interactive multimedia performance created by the NCCJC, was the heart of this experience. Our community-based performances combined spoken word, visual art, movement, soundscapes, and puppetry into beautiful storytelling that 1 inspired action. These Ballots and Balance events also featured local guest speakers and nationally renowned performers such as Taina Asili to spark creativity, activism and community engagement.
