North Carolina Firefighters Fund

Received grant from blue cross/blue shield of north carolina insurance company to provide reimbursement grants to fire departments for conducting cancer screening for volunteer members. Such screening can provide early detection of firefighter cancers and improve treat- ment and survival. Awards were made to 2 departments for $5,964 (maximum per department $3,000).

Received grant from blue cross/blue shield of north carolina insurance company to provide funds for fire education, fire pre- vention and volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention. The grant proceeds were paid to the office of state fire marshal in the north carolina dept of insurance to support existing programs in these areas. This organization does not have staff or resources to provide these programs and services.
