North Carolina Nurses Association

Education and conferences: the association provides educational programs and conferences designed to maintain and improve the skills of its members. As an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the american nurses credentialing center's commission on accreditation, the association offers an approved provider process whereby providers of nursing educational activities can obtain approved provider status for a three-year period.

Government and health policy: the association represents the nursing profession in regard to legislation, governmental programs, and health policy by maintaining registered lobbyists in the state general assembly when it is in session. The lobbyists also monitor various committees and other legislative groups between legislative sessions.

Publications: the association provides various publications to inform members regarding topics and issues affecting the nursing profession including its official publication, tar heel nurse, which is published six times per year. The association also provides a monthly electronic newsletter to its members.

Standards in practice and workplace advocacy: the association serves to promote standards of nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing services. The association also promotes nursing workplace design that enhances safe practices and nurse retention.

Leadership: the association provides for representation in the american nurses association membership assembly as well as in other professional nurses organizations.
