Mission

North East Trees (NET) creates greener communities through community-based urban forestry, nature-based design-build of parks, community engagement, and youth workforce development. Our projects, which take place in parks, schoolyards, public housing developments, and the City right-of-way, benefit communities that are disinvested, overburdened, and historically under-served. We are LA's oldest design-build non profit and a recognized leader across the State for actualizing grassroots community ideas to achieve projects that prioritize nature in neighborhoods that need them the most. We envision a Los Angeles where all neighborhoods have access to a healthy urban forest and outdoor spaces.

Programs

2 programs

NET's Parks and Open Space Program designs and builds public parks and green spaces and implements water conservation projects following Nature Based Solutions and Low Impact Development design principles. For example, the installation of bioswales helps water travel on paths so it can penetrate the earth before it runs off to the streets and into storm drains. Schools, agencies, foundations, and the City and County of Los Angeles are among the beneficiaries of NET's work eliminating invasive species, planting drought resistant native plants and trees to restore the habitat, and installing site attributes such as playgrounds, public information signage, landscaping and boulders, sidewalks, and drinking fountains.

Expenses: $872K
