Mission

Nfcc's mission is to help ease hardship and foster financial stability in our community. We deliver services focused on preventing homelessness and hunger and providing educational opportunities through five key program areas: assistance services, smartchoice food pantry, clothing choice, education and workforce development, and seasonal programs. Our purpose is to provide opportunities for the whole community to thrive.

Programs

3 programs

Nfcc's smartchoice food pantry is one of the largest and busiest in the area, filling 59,301 food orders last year that saved over 3,883 families over $5.6 million in grocery bills. Many families use the pantry to supplement snap benefits and stretch food budgets, freeing income to pay rent and other household bills and reducing the need to make the difficult choice of buying food or paying rent or utilities. Because families choose what to take home, we can reduce waste and maintain dignity for families asking for help.

Expenses: $6.8MGrants: $6.1M

Modeled after the smartchoice pantry program, our family choice program awards thrift store points for clothing, shoes, and coats, based on household size. As with the pantry program, financial assistance clients are encouraged to use this resource to ease household costs. In 2024, we saved over 1,872 families over $565,000 in clothing and shoe expenses. Families are able to shop with dignity and choose the items that best meet their needs while using the money they would have spent on clothing and shoes on other necessary costs such as medications, car repairs, insurance, etc.

Expenses: $3.0MGrants: $2.1M

The nfcc mission allows us to extend beyond the immediate need or that moment in crisis that any of us could experience by looking to the medium and long term needs of our families through improving skills in language, education and job training. In the calendar year of 2024, we enrolled 515 students in our esl (english as second language) program. This five level program is available to all at our facility and other satellite locations. Our education program provided 10 students last year with their ged with 73 others working through the curriculum. Our workforce development program provides coaching and job skills to new, current or someone returning to the job market through improving resumes, job hunting strategies, interviewing techniques and by taking advantage of our computer training classroom for ms office training.
