Mother cabrini addressing mental health: total funding: $125k; recognized $125k in 2024.for years, new yorkers have faced a growing mental health and substance use crisis, struggling to find timely, affordable care - especially for their children. Even when help is available, the costs are often prohibitive, with out-of-network behavioral health services reaching $450-$800 per hour, creating a two-tiered system that leaves low- and moderate-income families behind. The covid-19 pandemic has intensified mental health challenges, particularly for children and teens, whose development and well-being were disrupted by isolation and stress. Depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts are increasingly common among young people, with lgbtq+ youth experiencing the greatest disparities in access to care and support. Alarming statistics show rising rates of mental illness, suicide ideation, and attempts among adolescents and young adults, making early intervention and family-inclusive support critical. Mental health struggles impact not only individuals but also entire households, affecting how employees show up at work. To address this, nebgh is committed to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and ensuring equitable access to quality care through campaigns, educational resources, conferences, webinars, and partnerships with employers, health systems, and community organizations - all aimed at preventing suicide and improving mental health outcomes across all populations.
Ny community trust year 2 -improve behavioral access for new yorkers 2 year grant total funding $77,500 per year.the nebgh measurement-based care project aims to enhance mental health and substance use treatment for 4.5 million new yorkers across various socioeconomic backgrounds, particularly those underserved by current systems. With evidence showing that repeated use of validated rating scales can improve outcomes by 20% to 60%, the initiative seeks to address the low adoption rates of such practices among mental health providers, currently at only 18% for psychiatrists and 11% for psychologists. By leveraging employer purchasing power, the project will encourage health plans to report on quality metrics and support the integration of standardized screening tools. Key activities include collaborating with employers to set performance standards, tracking progress, identifying barriers to implementation, and promoting best practices for measurement-based care throughout new york state. The ultimate goal is to ensure that mbc becomes a standard practice in both in-person and telehealth settings, driving accountability and improving treatment outcomes.
Women's health initiative total funding: $35,000 abbvie $25k /maven $10k; recognized $17,500 in 2024.this initiative is designed to empower employers to address critical women's health needs in the workplace, with the goal of fostering a supportive environment for women's health and well-being. It involves a comprehensive survey, developed in collaboration with experts, to capture women's health challenges, preferences, and topics such as reproductive health, menopause, and autoimmune diseases. The survey will be distributed to a diverse group of employers, with sponsors encouraged to contribute questions. Additionally, a webinar will be created to educate employers on women's health issues, health disparities, and the importance of informed choices, emphasizing how these factors impact workplace productivity and employee satisfaction. The project timeline includes nalizing survey questions and content in q4, distributing the survey and analyzing results in q1 2024, and hosting the webinar alongside releasing a resource toolkit. Employers will benet from enhanced understanding of women's health issues and actionable strategies, while sponsors will gain visibility and recognition as thought leaders in promoting women's health initiatives. The initiative also highlights the increasing prevalence of cancers among younger adults, emphasizing the need for prevention and support in the workplace.
Pfizer cancer in working adults total funding $50,000; recognized $12,500 in 2024.colorectal cancer, breast cancer, head and neck cancer, skin cancer, and cancers of the reproductive organs are all rising among younger adults. However, there is much that can be done to support prevention, early detection, and care for employees affected by these diseases. Sponsors of this initiative will receive prominent acknowledgment in all promotional and initiative-related materials, across all formats and media, as outlined in the sponsorship terms. Benefits include branding and logo visibility, verbal recognition across resources, promotional emails, the nebgh website, webinar materials, press releases, and more. Sponsors will be recognized as thought leaders in addressing the growing impact of cancer on working-age adults and will receive complimentary webinar access for their employees and invited guests. Cancer project cancer in working adults total funding: $165,000 (sanofi $50k/ pfizer $50k/ grail $25k/ j&j $15k/ mskcc $25k); recognized $96,250 in 2024.in 2024, nearly 1.9 million americans are expected to be diagnosed with cancer, with approximately 45% falling between the ages of 20 and 64making cancer a top cost driver for employers and a significant burden for employees. The growing incidence of cancer, especially among working-age adults and an aging workforce, presents challenges and opportunities for employers to support affected employees and caregivers. Cancer disproportionately impacts communities of color, with african americans experiencing the highest mortality rates and lower screening rates among black, hispanic, asian, and aian populations. Employers can play a crucial role in bridging these gaps by providing access to education, screening, treatment options, psychosocial support, caregiving resources, and tools for financial navigation. Nebgh will develop a multi-channel initiative delivering guidance and resources for employers across areas including prevention, early detection, second opinions, treatment advances, health equity, survivorship, financial toxicity, and hospice care. Deliverables include direct-to-employee guides, fact sheets, webinars, podcasts, and a dedicated microsite housing "evergreen" cancer content. This initiative aims to equip employers with best practices in benefit design, education, stigma reduction, and equitable support for employees and their families facing a cancer diagnosis.
