Mission

The Tributary is a nonprofit newsroom producing high-impact government accountability and investigative journalism in the public interest. Based in Jacksonville, The Tributarys mission is to shine a light on systemic problems and solutions, hold those in power accountable, and focus on undercovered topics through collaboration with other news organizations and the community. Since its founding in 2021, The Tributarys journalism has has had an outsize impact for its small size, and won awards at the state and national level. We fill gaps in our media ecosystem, reporting on topics and issues that would otherwise go uncovered, with a focus on stories that make an impact. In 2024, The Tributary's journalism reached more than 10 million Floridians through our distribution partners, giving voters vital nonpartisan, fact-based information about candidates and issues, and covering stories that otherwise would have gone untold.

Programs

1 program

The Tributary gathers ongoing feedback from readers and the wider community, including attending and holding in person community meetings, and speaking engagements about the journalism it produces. Key accomplishments in 2024 included taking community feedback about issues in the 2024 elections, and appearing at community events and local broadcasts to answer questions, as well as live broadcasting on YouTube, publishing of results and Q&A on social media on election night.
