Day programs: over 220 individuals with disabilities are provided with daytime activities 5 days a week in 4 different sites or without walls so their abilities are developed through recreation, community involvement and volunteering. The objective of this program is to assist individuals with disabilities in becoming independent, contributiing members of our community.approved fiscal intermediary managing over 100 self-directed budgets. Self-direction empowers people to design supports based on their unique strengths and needs, it gives control over the funding to the person to be used for their services.

Education services: the starting place in hudson is our nysed approved preschool education program for local school districts and day care center for three to five-year olds and their families. Classrooms and daycare are staffed with a high adult-to-child ratio and integrate children who are experiencing disabilities along with those who are not. Our special education teachers and assistants provide educational instruction using a developmentally appropriate play-based curriculum. Classes focus on adaptive, fine and gross motor skills, communication skills and improving social, emotional, cognitive and sensory impairments. Clinicians provide individualized attention through speech, occupational and physical therapy, social work and psychological services. Guidelines for the starting place day care center are set and monitored by the office of children and family services for provision of quality day care and by the nys education department for the provision of services to preschool children with special needs.
