Mission

The arc of monroe, a chapter of nysarc (the arc of new york) exists to meet a critical mission - to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. For over 60 years the arc of new york and its many chapters, including the arc of monroe, has been a leader in assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build a life that includes actively living in their community, participating in employment opportunities, and choosing the services and supports best suited to their individual needs and preferences. The agency began with a small group of families advocating for their family members and the arc of new york continues to be one of the strongest voices for the idd community in new york state.

Programs

3 programs

Day habilitation - in 2024, the arc provided a wide variety of day habilitation services to more than 300 individuals in five site-based settings, as well as two community based programs. Each day site provides unique opportunities for learning new skills geared to different ages and disability levels. Classes include horticulture, music, dance, and art therapy. One of the community programs focuses on volunteer efforts to help develop employment skills and the other is a retirement program that is integrated into a wide number of community programs and activities.

Community and vocational services - for decades, the arc has been a recognized leader in offering vocational and employment opportunities to thousands of people throughout the county. The arc works with over 200 community businesses in providing employment to individuals. Those not ready for competitive employment can participate in a variety of prevocational opportunities. In addition to employment, the arc is also a leader in providing specialized health care services to more than 750 individuals through our on-site clinic in 2024.
