Programs
3 programs
Tutoring & school services for latino children: open arms has a strong relationship with local school systems, and provides assistance to latino parents with enrolling their children in school and help translating for school meetings. Our tutoring program has greatly expanded this past year. Approximately 30 children receive 1 on 1 tutoring for around 2 hours a week with a volunteer tutor. During the summer open arms runs a once a week camp for these children as well.
Other program services: open arms is working in partnership with various organizations to help the immigrant community in a number of different areas. We are pleased to see that the chief of police and mayor of a local city have developed an open-door policy helping us develop a good working relationship with city officials where many of these latinos are living. This past year we expanded our services to akron, ohio, adding a full-time community worker and office in akron. In addition, we are working with other non-profits like mcc connections and the immigrant worker project.
Discipleship & sunday morning services at various local congregations: prepared sunday religious services and educational materials to instruct anglo communities about the hardship of immigrants, labor and other topics as well as the importance of their labor in the food chain of this country. In addition, to highlight the opportunities for immigrants in a multi-cultural church context. In this category it is difficult to estimate numbers of attendees because church sizes vary significantly.
