Our open source amateur radio communications satellite project work requires industry standard software tools and licenses. These expenses enabled all of the published work done in 2024. We maintain a full suite of MATLAB and Simulink tools with all toolboxes. We offer and maintain these tools to our volunteer engineering teams. We offer these tools free for open source public domain work. We maintain a current floating license for Vivado from AMD Xilinx. These tools through Remote Labs West have enabled the publication of a very large amount of useful open source digital radio designs.

This program expense was RFBitBanger RFBitBanger is a low-power high-frequency digital radio by Dr. Daniel Marks KW4TI. The design is Open Source. It is resilient and easy to maintain because it uses common and easily accessible parts. Participants learned supply chain resiliency and how to design high tech Class E amplifiers with low-tech limitations. This radio implements a novel digital keyboard mode called SCAMP. Two phases of the radio were developed in 2023-4 with participants in Europe North America and Asia benefiting from the experience. In 2024 we finalized the gifting of the design to the general public at no cost.
