Through community training and outreach, we strengthened referral networks by equipping hundreds of professionals with a better understanding of low vision and when and how to refer children for care. Community collaborations expanded access to vision services in underserved communities. We provided in-person and virtual training to schools and organizations, raising awareness about early identification and support. As a result, more children with vision loss or at risk for vision loss and their families received the care and resources they need.
In order to help families build support systems, partners for pediatric vision provides monthly family support groups in english and spanish. In addition, families are encouraged to join our family events designed to foster connection, learning, and fun for the entire family. These outings provide children and their families with opportunities to explore new environments, build social skills, and create lasting memories. Family events include notes bring hope ukulele lessons, western museum of flight tour, build-a-bear, la philharmonic symphonies of youth, audio described movie, a netflix film screening, and nature walks at the bolsa chica conservancy and rancho los alamitos.
