Para works to protect the patagonia mountains and sonoita creek watershed from negative impacts of industrialized mining by: 1. Holding state and federal agencies accountable for environmental laws and regulations; 2. Collaborating with strategic partners to ensure any mining activities meet the highest science-backed standards and 3. Supporting the nature-based economy dependent upon the regions rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. We strive to educate and engage the community in patagonia and surrounding areas about the risks and realities of 21st century mining and promote local sustainable economies.

Para collaborates with strategic partners to monitor the activity of industrialized mining companies in the patagonia mountians by raising awareness of the proposed mines. It advocates for the residents of the area in this regard by monitoring united state forest service issuances of statements of proposed actions in order to work to achieve the highest level of protection for the regions water wildlife and way of life.

Expenses: $17K

Para created outreach in the local community and beyond to inform and educate about the potential environmental hazards of industrialized mining in the area. Its weekly newsletter reaches over 1,000 people . It also participates in local events and holds public meetings to continue its education efforts in the community.
