Pathfinder Village Inc

Ira - eight homes and one apartment at pathfinder village are individual residential alternatives certified be the nys office of people with developmental disabilities. This program currently serves 46 adults. Several of these residents are competitively employed by an area factory and hospital. Those not employed in the community attend day programs provided by the arc. When the work day is done residents are encouraged to participate in the village's recreation program. This includes organized sports, creative arts, music, bell choir, karaoke, games and special olympics. The residents also take many trips including; dinner outings, movies, swimming, bowling, skiing, camping and vacations to various destinations. In their homes, the residents spend time sharing family moments, like dinner, chores and games with their housemates and staff.

Education - school-aged students at pathfinder village are offered an exceptional educational experience; one that is custom-fit to meet each student's individual needs and abilities. The school was recently chosen for the "school of excellence" award by the national associationof special education teachers. The school currently serves 21 students and operates four classrooms: primary, intermediate, jr. High and sr. High. Four sr. High students also participate in a pre-vocational program designed to help students with their job readiness skills. Thepathfinder school offers a full academic curriculum in addition to speech & language services, adaptive physical education, creative arts and technology/library.

Other programs includes the following, among others: 1) child maintenance - in support of their ieps, two students receive a full array of residential supports that allow them to receive educational services at pathfinder school. The residential component of the children's education provides opportunities to gain competence in self-care skills, independent decision-making, improved communication and social skills, and ongoing inclusion-integration into the greater community. Additionally, students may access a wide variety of on-campus and community-based enrichment programs for exploring the arts, sports and fitness, and cultural/leisure/social offerings.2) community habilitation - individuals at pathfinder village who participate in community habilitation provide service delivered in the community to facilitate inclusion, integration, and relationship building. These services assist the individual in being successful at home, in school, and in their other natural environments to help maintian them in their community.3) prevocational - services provided to prepare individuals with developmental disabilities for paid employment or meaningful community activities, including volunteering.4) day habilitation - includes a range of day programs to individuals with developmental disabilities. Each is focused on giving participants the personal, social and vocational supports needed to live in their community.
