Programs

Legal services: the legal division is responsible for providing legal services to psea's approximately 176,000 members and to over 1,000 local affiliates. Psea represents locals with respect to bargaining and contract issues and represents members in all employment-related matters in arbitration or before state agencies. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the division collectively opened and worked on over 800 cases. In addition, the legal division advises and represents psea as an organization, undertakes litigation as needed on behalf of psea, its locals, and members on matters of statewide importance involving constitutional or statutory rights, and coordinates a number of programs including the educators employment liability program and the association's liability insurance policy.
The communications division produces many publications focused on issues relevant to members including a magazine, several print newsletters, and several electronic newsletters. Other professional publications are available containing research, best practices, and useful tips and suggestions for members. Communications writes and produces the following print publications: voice, the all-member magazine, distributed to all members, 5 times a year; statement, a newsletter for psea-retired members, distributed to 27,000 psea-retired members four times a year; dispatch, a newsletter for psea's esp members, distributed to 32,000 esp members four times a year; and pulse, a newsletter for psea's healthcare members.in addition, communications writes, produces, and deploys six electronic newsletters, including keeping connected, the all-member e-newsletter, distributed to about 141,000 members, weekly; and president to president, an e-newsletter from the psea president to local presidents, distributed to about 1,000 local leaders, monthly.communications also publishes other membership materials, is responsible for arts and graphics materials for the entire organization, shoots, edits, and deploys videos, coordinates the association's social and digital media programs, and designs and maintains a sophisticated website with both public and members-only elements.finally, communications leads the association's media relations program, providing information to reporters, deploying press releases, and op-eds, and preparing officers and staff for media interviews.
