Mission
Promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare, foster environmental stewardship, and ensure the availablility of pets. It is a non-profit, service-oriented organization comprised of a diverse membership representing all segments of the pet industry and pet owners who care for pets and the pet industry.

Education through accreditation/certification - to instruct and certify pet shop employees, breeders, and pet owners on the care and handling of pet animals.
Public relations - information clearing house for media, data, and statistics inquiry.
Government affairs (legislative/regulatory) - the council monitors international, federal, state, and local legislation and regulations that may have an impact on the pet industry, and submits comments and testimony to legislators and regulators explaining industry positions.
