Physicians For Peace

In keeping with a decade of support for surgical education and training at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre, Malawi, Physicians for Peace offers a scholarship opportunity to trainees in either general surgery or anaesthesia who will contribute to expansion of the country's surgical capacity and medical leadership.

The burn surgery program implemented by Physicians for Peace exists to provide essential skills and training that contributes to greater access to quality healthcare in under-resourced areas of the world. Because burns are lifetime injuries, requiring dedicated medical care for years after the initial injury, PFP International Medical Educators (IMEs) provide training and mentorship to an array of healthcare providers, including surgeons, nurses, therapists and psychologists, who care for patients with burn injuries at different stages of their recovery.

Central to Physicians for Peace's commitment to improving access to safe, timely surgical care is a collaboration with Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital to address Malawi's shortage of anesthesia providers, recognizing it as a central limiting factor to perioperative care. We provide sponsorships for anesthesiology trainees along with training and mentoring for future anesthesia providers and clinical officers, to expand the country's workforce and strengthen clinical leadership.
