Mission

Piedmont land conservancy protects our region's natural lands, family farms and waters for the benefit of all living things through land protection, stewardship of conserved spaces, and connecting people with nature. We envision a healthy, thriving region with abundant clean waters, productive farmland, and sustainable wildlife habitat, enabled by a network of permanently protected lands.plc works with willing landowners to permanently protect important land resources through conservation agreements, acquisition of priority conservation lands, and stewardship of previously protected lands. These strategies help preserve family farms, maintain clean waters, protect special natural areas, and enhance publicly accessible lands. Plc connects people to nature through education, outings, and trail access to protected properties and nature preserves.

Programs

2 programs

Public education - piedmont land conservancy conducted several community events designed to increase public awareness of the critical need to preserve open spaces and farmland in the rapidly-developing piedmont area of north carolina. These events included open houses and clean-up sessions of protected properties, visits to schools, presentations to civic clubs and church groups, and other means of increasing awareness of the need for land preservation.

Expenses: $212K

Land stewardship - most of the land protection projects of the organization carry a perpetual stewardship obligation. Piedmont land conservancy is charged with monitoring the use of property under conservation easements. In fulfilling this responsibility, agency personnel visit all protected properties at least once annually to observe the property for appropriate uses under the easement or purchase agreements.
