Mission
The Foundation operates and preserves The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum, Phelps Farm, historic grounds, gardens, agricultural land, collections and archives and presents historical and cultural programs for the general public.
Programs

A reinterpretation initiative in 2021-2022 included grants from NEH and Mass Humanities that included eight consultants paid through these grants to refocus the Museum tour on the enslaved, indentured, indigenous, free blacks and the women daily laborers that worked at the site. In 2023 we received a MassHumanities Staffing grant to support Humanities programming and Preservation Projects at Phelps Farm. We also received a MCC COERP grant.
Historic preservation projects were undertaken to the museum structures thanks to grants from Mass Cultural Facilities Fund and the 1772 Foundation. Phelps Farm stabilization and a structural study were supported by grants from another Mass Cultural Facilities Fund and by individual donors.
General Operations of the PPH historic site including grounds maintenance, insurance, occupancy. Expenses related to the acquisition of Phelps Farm including legal, utilities, repairs, oversight, taxes. We also received a USDA Pollinator Plan and costs associated with its implementation.
