Mission

The mission of Praxis is to revitalize the field of fiber art in the Cleveland area by giving local artists and community members access to fiber related equipment, classes, and studio space.

Programs

3 programs

Our Digital Weaving Lab hosts two TC2 looms. These looms are manufactured in Norway and are the only looms with jacquard capability for the handweaver to use. We host two week residency programs where artists come from all over the world to acccess this equipment. We host 48 artist residents per year.

Expenses: $83K

Praxis offers three tiers of membership for artists who wish to use our workshop as a studio space. The basic membership level at $55/month allows access during open studio hours only when Praxis staff is present. The second tier, working membership for $125/month allows 24/7 access to the facility. Finally, there are five private studios available at $275/month (50 total members). We have added an indigo memebrship at a sliding scale of $50-$250/year for those interested in using the indigo vats at Praxis.

Expenses: $50K

Praxis uses its resources to bring art to the local community for low cost or free workshops and classes. Some of these programs include natural dye gardens in the residential neighborhoods of Collinwood to engage the community about the importance of using plant-based dye for the environment, mobile loom to bring into the neighborhoods, and free classes for residents of our neighborhood (approximately 400 people).
