Preferred family healthcare (pfh) specializes in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders (sud), providing services which include residential and outpatient treatment, creative arts, school-based and community-based prevention and virtual counseling services. Pfh offers services targeted to specific consumer needs including gender-specific women's services, trauma and co-occurring services, alumni programming, supportive housing, relapse prevention, and drug court services. The agency has played a significant role in the development of comprehensive substance abuse treatment and recovery (cstar) programming in missouri. Since opening our first adolescent sud program in 1991, pfh has grown to become the largest provider of adolescent and adult substance abuse treatment in missouri. The agency's commitment to developing and expanding services to meet the needs of its consumers resulted in adding new services to address co-occurring issues; incorporating medication assisted treatment (mat); providing services to assist those experiencing trauma issues; integration of employment, education and child welfare services as part of treatment team; and focusing on the specific needs of women and their families. Pfh has been a leader in gender-specific services, offering two specialized women's residential programs to support the needs of the women and their families during treatment and recovery. Components of evidence-based approaches, including motivational enhancement therapy (met), cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt), trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (cf-cbt), strengths-based client-centered approach, and motivational interviewing (mi), are woven into service modalities for optimal treatment effectiveness. Pfh also provides comprehensive, community-based prevention to prevent substance use among youth. The goal of the pfh prevention department is to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among youth and adults within our service area, train individuals how to recognize symptoms of mental health problems, and assist communities in developing and maintaining coalitions, task forces and teams to combat substance use issues through prevention practices, programs & policies. Pfh plays a substantial role in the prevention arena with a presence in over 100 schools offering universal prevention strategies and more targeted interventions for youth at risk of substance misuse. Pfh has been the recipient of many awards, including the national council award of excellence for its virtual treatment program to serve people in rural areas of missouri where treatment isn't easily accessible. This was one of the first projects of its kind across the nation and has positively impacted thousands of lives since the program's inception in 2008.

Preferred family healthcare (pfh) operates under the certified community behavioral health organization (ccbho) model in many communities offering services to adults and children. These through clarity, pfh has increased access to primary and behavioral health care as well as dental care for these underserved communities and the vulnerable populations who reside in these areas. Clarity healthcare has undertaken a variety of unique initiatives to expand sud treatment and healthcare services, including the provision of mobile dental services, school-based telehealth services, community health workers, and, through a partnership with the missouri department of corrections, re-entry services to assist in meeting the employment and behavioral healthcare needs of ex-offenders. Services are patient-centered, trauma-informed and recovery oriented with an integration of medical care to serve the whole person.

Programs include supported employment - assists individuals with disabilities in preparation for employment; employment services placement and retention - assists individuals to secure and maintain employment; employment services plus - specialized placement/retention for persons with autism, brain injury or who are deaf/hard of hearing; individualized placement and support ("ips") - evidence-based integration of employment within substance use and mental health treatment programs; and skills training in food service. In addition, employment services provides pre-vocational and supported employment services to clients with developmental disabilities through the missouri department of mental health. Pfh's employment services assist over 1,000 individuals every year to obtain a job of their choosing. Preferred family healthcare (pfh) offers mental health treatment programs for youth and adults suffering from a serious emotional disturbance or serious and persistent mental illness. Pfh is able to serve individuals who experience difficulty accessing services due to being uninsured. Additionally, pfh operates a vast network of outpatient clinics providing treatment in over 150 schools. Pfh has been at the forefront of designing interventions that have progressively allowed for more and more clients to maintain independence and mental wellness. Such interventions include health home engagement: pfh participates in the health home initiative in oklahoma and missouri providing care coordination to individuals whose mental illness and physical health symptoms identify the high-risk. Pfh continues to implement innovative practices across our four state service area. This is evidenced by numerous federal and foundation grant awards which allow pfh the ability to pilot what have turned out to be highly successful integrated care efforts. Such initiatives include: specialized sud treatment services for pregnant and postpartum women, certified community-based health center services, assertive community treatment for transitional aged youth, expanded medication-assisted treatment (mat), and numerous other programs which assist in coordinating primary & behavioral health care for individual with comorbidities. Youth and family - preferred family healthcare (pfh) supports children, youth, and families with complex needs, including: children and youth who are at risk of being removed from home or who have been removed with the goal of reunification; children and youth with serious emotional, neurobiological or behavioral disturbance, and their families; and children and youth having problems that place the children or youth at risk. A variety of programs are offered through missouri to support these youth and their families, including: chafee foster care independence program, and transitional living scattered site. Pfh is also the proud recipient of three federal regional partnership grants (funded by the children's bureau, administration for children, youth & families) which are aimed at impacting child welfare and parental substance use concurrently. This funding has allowed pfh to formalize the creation of a multidisciplinary team (child welfare, treatment, and employment) which generates significant cost savings for the state of missouri. Domestic violence - preferred family healthcare (pfh) has provided domestic violence (dv) victim services since 1979 and sexual assault (sa) victim services since 2001 in the greater st. Louis metropolitan region. Dv & sa services provided at pfh include a 24-hour crisis hotline and intervention, emergency shelter, individual and group counseling outreach, emergency response teams, and community education. In order to provide effective services, pfh's dv advocates have established reciprocal relationships with state and local organizations including missouri department of public safety, department of social services, department of health and senior services, local police departments, prosecuting attorneys' offices, hospitals, and community service agencies. Collaborative efforts are the crux of the organization, ensuring each individual served is offered the utmost in care and support. Through collaborations in the community, advocates are able to provide wraparound services for client needs that may otherwise go unmet. Pfh continuously provides community education and training to promote awareness on issues that victims of dv & sa face and to teach other helping professionals how to handle disclosure of victimization.
