To receive and administer funds for the benefit of charitable purposes and to lessen the financial burdens of the government of the State of Michigan; to raise funds from the general public to finance certain expenses that would otherwise be incurred by Michigan taxpayers; to support and encourage educational, charitable, and community projects that promote the economic, social, and public welfare of the State of Michigan, its communities, citizens and visitors; and to engage in activities for the relief of the poor, the distressed, or the underprivileged; advancement of education or science; lessening neighborhood tensions, eliminating prejudice and discrimination; defending human and civil rights; and combating community deterioration, including promotion of senior rights and decreasing juvenile delinquency.
