Mission
Provide shelter and support to women and families who have history with homelessness, mental health issues and justice involvement.
Programs
2 programs
In fiscal year 2024, Providence House continued its program model to serve women who would otherwise be detained at New York City's Rikers Island jail while awaiting their trial dates. The Women's Justice Project (WJP) is an alternative-to-detention initiative now offering 43 beds and intensive one-on-one services for women referred from city courts. In fiscal year 2024, 85 women were served through this effort.
Providence House operates four permanent supportive housing sites in Brooklyn. The four buildings offer private apartments for individuals and families who have struggled with chronic homelessness, and live with significant mental illness, chemical dependence, or other barriers to stability. A number of units are also available as affordable rentals for members of the community who meet income guidelines. Social work and case management services are available on-site, as are a number of community-building, social, and recreational events. In fiscal year 2024, 86 people resided in the four supportive housing facilities.
