Mission

The mission of the Kester Avenue Elementary PTA is to raise funds that support enrichment programs, educational events, and essential resources for our students and teachers. Through collaboration, volunteerism, and community engagement, we aim to provide opportunities that inspire academic excellence, personal growth, and a lifelong love of learning.

Programs

12 programs

Computer Program: Kester PTA has partnered with Enriched Minds who customize STEAM learning plans and provide computer instructors for all grades. We teach kids the basic skills needed to interact with a computer, iPad, Chrome books. Coding, robotics, typing and digital citizenship are all part of our curriculum.

Expenses: $67K

PE: Each week our students benefit from psychomotor instruction from coaches from our neighborhood YMCA. P.E. lessons include team building, agility, coordination, and endurance-as well as being just plain FUN for students of all ages, TK though grade 5. Students learn to play organized sports, take turns, and the rules of good sportsmanship.

Equipment. We provide playground and classroom equipment to the students

Art Program: Each class gets to take art for one hour a week for seven weeks covering topics from art history and different mediums to fundamentals like colors and shapes. Its proven that art reduces anxiety in children, helps with mood and confidence

Music Program - Students participate in music classes twice a week, and learn rhythm and singing. Students are also invited to audition for the school musical each semester.

Expenses: $15K

Garden Ranger: Our garden ranger teaches a STEM-based curriculum that includes: how and why plants grow, soil testing, drip irrigation, environmental stewardship and garden insects. Students take part in replanting flower boxes, expanding our edible garden, and learning about composting.

Field Trip Buses - We provide the money for each class to take multiple field trips a year, beyond what the district provides.

Expenses: $12K

Classroom Supplies - Kester PTA provides each classroom with $150 worth of supplies each year.

Expenses: $9K

Mindfulness: The mindfulness classes at Kester teach our students about gratitude, generosity, mindful speaking and movement, relaxation breathing and so much more. Teaching mindfulness and supporting the social-emotional development of our students can have positive effects on attention, social skills and even academic performance. It can also help reduce stress, test anxiety and impulsive behavior.

Other: teacher conferences, book fair, learning apps, Astro camp.

Beautification - This program purchases supplies and provides volunteers to clean up the campus and make it cleaner and safer for students.

Expenses: $4K

Affinity Groups: This program helps the PTA build meaningful relationships with groups at Kester who share a common ideology or interest. Members of any community and their supporters are encouraged to meet and identify ways the PTA can support their engagement and help improve their overall school experience.
