Mission
RappCats is a private, non-profit organization that rescues, cares for, and finds loving homes for abandoned, abused, neglected, injured and homeless cats and kittens in Rappahannock County, Virginia. It is supported entirely through private contributions. We operate the RappCats Adoption Center, a cage-less, no kill facility that is the only Virginia approved cat shelter in Rappahannock County. In addition, we work closely with the community to reduce cat overpopulation through our spay/neuter program, which provides residents with low and no cost spay and neutering services. Also, when able, we provide family assistance to residents unable to pay veterinary bills.

To help reduce the homeless cat population, RappCats facilitates and provides no-cost and low-cost spaying and neutering to Rappahannock County cats. In 2023, 203 Rappahannock County cats were spayed or neutered using RappCats funds. Expenses include not only direct veterinary fees, but also significant payroll expenses associated with staff time relating to trapping cats and transportation to and from veterinary offices. Among its efforts to reduce the homeless cat population, RappCats has initiated a program supported by local charities that work with low income residents to provide no-cost neutering. The program recognizes that neutering male cats is more economical than spaying female cats and is much less intrusive.
Family Assistance covers a wide range of help to families, including paying for veterinary fees that pet owners cannot afford, and using our staff to consult and train county residents on a wide range of cat issues issues.
