Equine assisted counseling is a program in which a mental health professional helps clients address mental health treatment goals by partnering with horses. As prey animals, horses are very sensitive to humans' emotions and body language. Their genuine responses to clients'underlying mental and emotional states provide honest feedback that helps clients make positive changes in their patterns of thinking and behaving. The bond that clients establish with their horses also teaches them how to form healthier relationships with people, and their experiences with the horses provide a starting point for exploring parts of their lives.
