The Abuse in Later Life Grant through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is aimed at addressing domestic violence in later life (50+ years) in Maricopa County and surrounding areas. The primary focus is on collaboration with the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) DOVES program to provide advocacy, case management, and housing needs identified by the community to victims of late-life abuse. The program helps victims overcome the unique challenges that older victims face when they leave their abusers. The Arizona Abuse in Later Life partners coordinate a community response team (CCRT) to collaborate and discuss resources, protocols, and systems checks related to elder abuse. As a partner, RCP developed a training module for the Vulnerable Abuse Protocol (VAP) and hosted an annual training to demonstrate how the tool can be used in the community. The Maricopa County Resource Guide (in English and Spanish) was created with information from the VAP. The guides are distributed to law enforcement and other organizations that work with older adults and those experiencing domestic violence.
