To promote the health and well being of people with disabilities through increasing access to technology solutions; to advance the field by offering certification, continuing education, and professional development; to develop assistive technology standards; to promote research and public policy; and to sponsor forums for the exchange of information and ideas to meet the needs of an interdisciplinary constituency.

Education program - the continuing education program includes in-person and online courses, webinars, and journal article readings. These educational activities are in support of the development, dissemination, and utilization of knowledge and practice of rehabilitation and assistive technology. The society is accredited by the international association for continuing education and training (iacet), an internationally accepted standard of excellence in instructional practices.

Technical standards board - a program established to ensure consumer safeguards and increase consumer satisfaction regarding the provision of assistive technology through a process that validates an individual's qualifications and knowledge in a defined functional or clinical area. Candidates for certification typically must meet specific requirements to be eligible for certification and those declared eligible must pass an examination.

Annual meeting and student design - provides an opportunity for members to gather and discuss new developments in the industry and share ideas for improvements regarding technology and disability.
