Fundraising for the installation of a memorial statue honoring clinton high school alum, frederick wayman "duke" slater. Duke attended chs (class of 1915) leading the school to two state championships in football. He attended the university of iowa where he was the first african-american all-american from iowa. He was the nfl's first african-american lineman, and was inducted into the pro football hall of fame. He earned his law degree from iowa and was the first african-american judge to serve on the superior court of chicago. The memorial will serve to inspire students and student-atheletes alike. Overcoming incredible obstacles, duke found a way to rise above in his althetic and professional life.
