To preserve a proper place in history for the momentous events which have taken place in this vicinity; to promote suitable memorials thereto; to maintain and operate one or more museums and sites in the interest of history, science, and art; to disseminate knowledge of local history; to conduct educational programs and encourage general participation therin; and to record the growth and history of the city.
