Programs
1 program
Ronald mcdonald house charities of kansas city, inc. (rmhc-kc) also provides respite in a home-like environment inside two (2) local hospitals. The family room inside children's mercy hospital (cmh) opened in 1997 with seven (7) overnight rooms for families whose children are receiving care in the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. In august of 2024, after a full renovation of our family room program inside cmh, we renamed and opened a house inside the hospital. This program now serves 10 families overnight. In 2024 the house inside the hospital saw 6,762 visitors and provided 537 overnight stays in the sleeping rooms. All in-patient, intensive care unit families at cmh are eligible to use the house inside the hospital during the day and can also request one of the ten (10) overnight sleeping rooms. The family room inside overland park regional medical center (opr) opened in february 2022 and provides four (4) overnight rooms for families whose children are receiving care in the intensive care units. In 2024 there were 2,627 visits to the family room and 413 overnight stays in the four (4) sleeping rooms. The organization also hosted 1,797 visitors through its day pass program, in which families have access to food, respite, laundry, and activities during the day. Rmhc-kc would not be able to carry out its' mission without the support of volunteers. In 2024 rmhc-kc welcomed 988 total community groups such as schools, businesses and churches to provide a lunch or dinner meal for 50 guests. The meal program alone hosted 9,016 meal volunteers in 2024! The core volunteer program utilized 147 individual volunteers with a total of 4,675 hours as a campus or hosptial program volunteer in 2024. Our fundraising efforts (red friday, trent green golf classic, spark of hope gala, etc.) utilized 858 event volunteers to help with setup, cleanup and various event day tasks last year. 743 community members provided various care and supply kits for families. Lastly, rmhc-kc had approximately 150 active committee and board members who served in leadership roles in 2024. In total rmhc-kc utilized 10,878 volunteers in 2024 t0 carry out its' mission.
