Rosenwald Park Campaign

On november 13 the campaign and 12 other nonprofits sponsored a program at the capitol visitor center on the legacy of julius rosenwald, the impact of rosenwald schools and the progress of the campaign. Over 100 people attended the event, including several sitting and former members of congress. Three members of house of representatives chellie pingree of me, steve cohen of tn and jamie raskin of md - made opening remarks, the campaign's film was shown, and a panel discussion concluded the program. In 2024 the campaign completed the strategic planning process initiated in the last months of 2023. In 2024 sharon davies, president of the kettering foundation, joined the campaign board. She had previously served on the campaign advisory council. Board member pam bowman, representing the national trust for historic preservation, resigned from the board in november 2024, and tiffany tolbert, also of the trust, was designated to take her place in 2025. Charles frank of highland park il, joined the advisory council, as did susan bales, founder of frameworks institute, of manhattan beach, ca. Campaign board members stephanie deutsch and dorothy canter continued to give in person presentations and webinars to interested groups and participated in events sponsored by other organizations. The campaign's 2023 award-winning film "rosenwald: toward a more perfect union" was shown at multiple events, both by the campaign and other organizations. Significantly, the cosmos club of washington, dc, sponsored a dinner program on julius rosenwald and the rosenwald schools on february 23 that was attended by 130 people

As of february 15, 2024, the campaign started renting a small office in the nichols tower, within the original sears, roebuck merchandising complex in the north lawndale section of chicago to maintain a presence in chicago. The campaign continued to add to its collection of memorabilia, including first edition books by rosenwald fund fellows and magazines containing articles on them. It also contracted to have table top models constructed of five different rosenwald school plans for future museum exhibitions on rosenwald schools. The campaign issued 12 newsletters in 2024, including a special issue commemorating the 50th anniversary of the brown v. Board of education decision by the supreme court; at the end of the year there were more than 1900 subscribers to the newsletter.
