Safe Hands For Girls

The gambian advocacy program provides training of fgm survivors to become information advisors in their own communities. It also includes various workshops around surrounding villages to teach practicing communities about fgm and to work with front line professionals.

From june 10, 2024 july 15, 2024, safe hands sponsered lawmakers visits to egypt to learn more about fgm and its correlation to the religious practices of islam. This event served as a benchmarking activity for national assembly members.

The fgm repeal vote event, was held throughout june 27, 2024 july 25, 2024, at the national assembly, where lawmakers decided if the law to repeal fgm should stay or be repealed.

The community outreach event, was held from april 4-30, 2024, deep within the local urban and rural communities around greater banjul and the west coast region, to disseminate information about fgm, and to inform community members how they should be involved in the fight to repeal the law to continue fgm practices.

The fgm sensitization event, was held from may 27, 2024 june 2, 2024, in various communities, to discuss the dangers of fgm, including health risks; fgm survivors also spoke about their experiences, inculding the dangers of fgm, and the traumas they have faced and the dangers fgm causes.

The global advocacy program raises awareness of the plight to end fgm and child marriage, and brings attention to these issues in order to shape policy and resource mobilization. Safe hands for girls works with governments and un bodies from all over the world to bring much needed attention to these issues.

The fgm repeal event, held from march 15-20, 2024, was the preparation stage, inviting ngos to work together, as a collective, to start making plans and strategies to end fgm practicies.

After ten years of powerful advocacy to end female genital mutilation (fgm) and gender-based violence (gbv), safe hands for girls recognized that the foundation, for all freedom, is economic. The regenerative hubs program was created to bridge our advocacy with action by empowering women and youth to rebuild their communities through substainable livelihoods. Each hub trains survivors and at-risk women in regenerative agriculture, soil restoration, and climate-smart entrepreneurship, transforming land once depleted and lives once marginalized. By linking economic opportunity with the prevention of harmful practices, regenerative hubs advance safe hands for girls' mission to create safety, dignity, and lasting independence for women and girls.
