Arts Education and Community EngagementSanchez Goes to School, Sanchez Art Centers award-winning program, Sanchez Goes to School,continued providing a full 15 art lessons for each TK 5 th grade student at Sunset Ridge ElementarySchool. The program is conducted during the school day and provided nearly 400 students hands on artmaking and an introduction to a variety of contemporary and historic artists and artworks. Bringing artto the classroom has been critical as children have continued to work through the isolation and socialdisruption of the pandemic in their early years. Six summer camps were held, providing week-longsessions with 52 children, ages 6 15, participating. Two scholarships were given to ensure opportunityfor those who might not otherwise be able to The programming included mixed media/printmaking,messy art from painting to assemblage, and filmmaking.Sanchez Art Center working with the Pacifica Collaborative and Pacificans Care, developed and coordinated community engagement programs to encourage kindness. To displace racist remarks maderemotely during public meetings, a pre-city council program was arranged with an artist who sangaffirmations written by the public and accompanied by a healing sound bowl. For a read-aloud programheld within the school district SAC provided books on kindness to be read to students in the K-5 th grade.A local artist was engaged to create the poster for a community sing-along that brought 120 people ofall ages to the adjoining concert hall to sing a song-list focused on hope and kindness that upliftedspirits. Large community events held for Earth Day and Pride Week also featured kindness with SACproviding the supplies for making small scratch art pieces that were made into buttons to take away andwear.SAC studio artists and visiting AGP members welcomed over 550 visitors to Open Studios in May,engaging with the community-at-large about their artistic practice in their workspaces. Additionally, several studio artists held a number of small group workshops either in their studios or in the Mary Harris Arts Education room, covering diverse mediums such as alcohol ink, collage and mixed media and jewelry making (reaching around 45 adults). Handmade Pacifica, an outdoor artisan/maker faire brought another 500 people to the center in July, providing the opportunity for local creators to share about their work and the visitors to buy locally made products.SAC staff continued in the role of providing guidance to artist about the approval process for public artprojects as a member of the City of Pacificas Public/Art Mural Subcommittee. SAC Executive Director also served another year as juror for the San Mateo County Parks Foundation Fine Art Poster Call for Entry, working with a group of jurors to select three artists to create fine art posters for individual parks in the system. SAC continued coordination for the Pacific Coast Fog Fest s annual Photography Contest.Over 60 submissions were received and over 65,000 viewed the display over two days
