Development of a scandia heritage trail, map, and interpretive signage that tells the history of scandia's historic sites. This map is available for free at many locations throughout the scandia community including the scandia community center and gammelgarden museum.
Scandia history series programs - scandia heritage alliance joined in partnership with gammelgrden museum and the city of scandia to expand scandia vinterfest in january with free family activities in events sponsored by sha in 2024 included: historic ice harvesting, meeting a sled dog team, a kubb tournament , meeting raptors from the wildlife science center and a goosechase trivia treasure hunt. In april, an audience of over 100 guests stepped back in time with architectural historian charlene roise to discover reasons behind the unique design of scandia's water tower barn that once stood behind the scandia mercantile. Using a 1905 aermotor manual as a guide, charlene studied the windmill remnants that remained in the building and unraveled the mystery behind a double outer wall on the tower, beefy windmill supports, and water tank design. In june, participants discovered the intriguing stories of knapp's cave, cedar bend swing bridge, and log house landing on this paddle / hike adventure that started at osceola landing and continued to log house landing in scandia. The tour included a short (but rigorous) hike to knapp's cave to hear its vibrant history.knapps cave is the largest natural cave in the st. Croix river valley. Scandia heritage alliance was part of the spelmansstmman (fiddlefest) on the grounds of gammelgrden museum in august. Board members of sha volunteered at the day long celebration and shared information about our mission and history programs.
