Seattle Neighborhood Greenways

Vision Zero: We continue to hold the City of Seattle accountable to its Vision Zero goal of zero traffic fatalities or serious injuries by 2030. We organized in communities most impacted by traffic violence to fix dangerous streets and build safe places for people to walk, bike, and roll. The MLK Transportation Justice Team planned and held an event with community members and policymakers to raise awareness in the MLK corridor, one of Seattles most dangerous streets, for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Through our work, the city committed to fixing the five most dangerous streets as part of the Keep Seattle Moving Levy, and committed to prioritizing safety first in all transportation projects as part of the Seattle Transportation Plan.

Mobility Justice: Whose Streets? Our Streets (WSOS) is a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-led and focused workgroup that advances mobility justice for communities of color in Seattle. WSOS developed relationships with BIPOC communities, offered community workshops, hosted listening sessions, and conducted extensive outreach at BIPOC community events. Based on its participatory research, WSOS also released a report of findings detailing how the City of Seattle can advance more equitable policies related to automated speed cameras and create safer streets. The MLK Transportation Justice Team (MLK) is a Black-led, intergenerational group that formed to organize BIPOC communities along the MLK Jr Way S corridor for transportation safety. MLK hosted listening sessions with community members and policymakers, conducted outreach at BIPOC community events, and shared educational information with the community.
