Senior Citizens Of Chewelah Valley

Food bank - to promote the social, cultural, spiritual, economic, physical and mental well being of individuals and families in need, by providing food and supplemental items to members of the community. Over 148,000 pounds of food and food related commodity items, including about 2,895 supplemental or emergency kits during the year and over 3,562 food gift certificates and turkey coupons in october and november, were given out to members of the community. The food bank served an average of 261 individuals and over 118 families monthly, through the chewelah food bank. Donations were received from second harvest food bank, local grocery stores and community members. Emergency assistance packets and energy saving kits are provided to community members, as provided by rural resources. Over 2,650 volunteer hours over the course of the year are provided by volunteers to run the food bank and the senior center, including a volunteer board.

Senior center - to promote the social, cultural, spiritual, economic, physical and mental well being of individuals and families in need, by providing social activities at the center. The hall is available to community organizations as a meeting space for a nominal donation that covers part of the cleaning and maintenance.
