Mission
Sistrunk Seeds, a nonprofit organization based in Overtown, Miami, is dedicated to promoting food justice, economic empowerment, and health equity in historically marginalized communities. Our work is grounded in the belief that access to nutritious food, culturally competent wellness education, and green space is a human right. As a Black- and woman-led organization, Sistrunk Seeds prioritizes serving BIPOC and low-income families through our programs at Dunn's Overtown Farms, Miami's only USDA-certified urban farm in the heart of the city. Our initiatives include: Plant-powered wellness programs in partnership with Jackson Health Systems and the University of Miami. Agricultural workforce training for teens that develops job skills and encourages economic mobility. Free food distribution through the Freedom Fridge, a 24/7 outdoor food pantry. Civic engagement and historical education led in collaboration with local leaders, artists, and local officials.
