Mission
The organization's primary tax exempt purpose is to preserve records and provide education on the history of smith county, texas. The organizationmaintains a history museum to preserve artifacts and archives on smith county history. The collection is available to the public and is free of charge for research and education. The organization also maintains a prisoner of war camp site with history markers which is open to visitors year round and free to visit. The organization holds monthly programs on historical topics which are available to members and the general public free of charge to encourage interest and support in the organization as well as provide education about the hstory of smith county. The organization also publishes a monthly newsletter for its members as well as an annual chronicles of smith county on various topics.
