The southwestern indiana regional council on aging (swirca & more) is a not for profit organization whose mission is enhancing opportunities for independent living. Swirca & more assists older adults and individuals who are disabled of all ages throughout a six county area including gibson, perry, posey, spencer, vanderburgh, and warrick. Swirca & more has developed a comprehensive array of services intended to prevent institutionalization and foster a safe home environment for each client we serve.

Programs

2 programs

Nutrition-the swirca & more nutrition programs provided daily home delivered meals throughout southern indiana countries by way of meal routes. The meal recipients include clients who are homebound and unable to prepare a hot nutritious lunch as well as care givers of elderly family members who are unable to travel to a swirca & more congregate meal site supporting our community members by providing daily well-balanced meals for those in need.

Wellness and community programs- swirca & more healthy aging/wellness program serves an average of 2380 people per month (duplicated). With an average of 173.26 per day (duplicated) visiting the activity center. There are a variety of programs offered which include the following: yoga, chair yoga, tai chi, arthritis exercise class, stretch and tone, line dancing, drums alive, educational health classes (with volunteers from iu, ue and usi including student nurses, physical therapist, occupational therapists and medical students), exercise room, community healthy aging programs and speakers, social actvities (special events/parties and outings), bingo, painting and craft class.
