Mission
SPACE Gallery is a nonprofit organization that supports contemporary arts projects, champions artists, and encourages an open exchange of ideas.
Programs
2 programs
SPACE's artists regranting programs include the Kindling Fund (now in its 11th year) and Sonic Visions Fund. The Kindling Fund is a statewide artist grant-making program for visual arts projects that engage the public in meaningful ways outside of traditional arts institutions. It is part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Network.
SPACE's Congress Street landmark building is also home to 31 below-market artist studios, including a collective printmaking shop and an artist residency studio. Studios are offered annually via a Rent Free Studio program to outstanding local artists who are Black, Indigenous, or another identity of color, selected by a local jury of alumni of the program. SPACE maintains and identifies as an active artist community, offering programmatic opportunities including open studios, classes, artist talks, workshops, subsidized studios, and artist residencies for Maine and national artists.
