Mission

Founded in 1938, the spca of texas is an independent nonprofit that rescues, cares for, and finds homes for animals. We support pets and their people, strengthening the connection they share.

Programs

3 programs

Public veterinary clinics and pet resource center: the spca of texas operates one low-cost veterinary clinic, the myron k. Martin spay/neuter and wellness clinic in west dallas. The clinic provides high-quality services at low costs so everyone can afford to care for their pet. Spca of texas veterinarians and medical teams spay or neuter, vaccinate, and microchip every adoptable animal in its animal shelters, and also provide services to pet owners in need with free or low-cost services through its russell h. Perry pet resource center, at the clinic, and mobile vaccine clinics. In addition, the pet resource center partners with individuals, other animal welfare organizations, and community partners to provide free food and other services to under-resourced people and their pets. In 2024, the spca of texas' veterinary and pet resource center programs helped make life better for pets and the people who love them by providing more than 7,500 wellness visits, more than 10,000 spay or neuter surgeries, and almost 200,000 pounds of free food.

Expenses: $4.2M

Animal cruelty investigations unit: the spca of texas fields a team of two full time humane investigators, a chief investigator, a case manager, a case coordinator, and a veterinarian who rescued more than 900 animals from cruelty and neglect across north texas counties in 2024. The investigators work with local law enforcement to investigate cruelty and rescue animals from abusive and life-threatening situations, gathering evidence, and bringing the cases to trial. Typical cases include puppy mills, animal hoarding, animal fighting, and abandoned, starving and/or injured animals. In addition, the spca of texas partners with law enforcement upon request to provide investigative and forensic veterinary services to law enforcement, prosecutors, and animal welfare organizations pursuing animal cruelty cases across the state of texas.

Expenses: $896K

Other program services beyond the above three areas: marketing & communications, call center, and community relations (volunteer).
