Special Strides

In 2004, the board of directors took a powerful step toward meeting special strides' mission of providing all individuals with life challenges the therapy services, recreational and educational programming needed to reach their unique potential. To this end, the board of directors established the steven werthan memorial fund to provide the necessary financial assistance to those individuals in need of our services. In 2024, $127,055 was awarded to 61 individuals who ultimately used $100,355 of the total allocation.

Volunteerism is integral to the functioning of all services and programs at special strides. Volunteers assist during therapy and recreational programming as sidewalkers, horseleaders, or in the office as administrative assistance and as fundraisers. We were excited to engage with 101 new volunteers with 23 ultimately forming our "new volunteer crew". Special strides is appreciative and dedicated to our volunteers in fostering mentorship in leadership, business, vocational aspirations, and sense of purpose. Our volunteers are a bridge to our community.
