School: Over 370 students of all ages visited the studios during the 2023-24 fiscal year to take one or more classes offered at The School of Spectrum Dance Theater. Spectrum offered 55 classes a week, representing 71 hours of instruction weekly, taught by over 17 faculty instructors. Spectrum is open fifty weeks a year, and our youngest students are 18 months old, while our more mature students range in age from their eighties to their nineties. The dance classes offered are Creative Movement for Toddlers: A Grown Up and Me Class, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop choreography, and World Dance. Spectrum's Gift of Dance Scholarship provided nine scholarships allocated to students aged 5-18.
Community Engagement: Serving both youth and adult populations, Spectrum Dance Theater's Community Engagement programs provide educational opportunities, experiences, and services that extend beyond the four walls of our facility and contribute to the overall health and well-being of the community. We offer most of the community engagement programs at no charge. During the 2023-24 fiscal year, we provided over 30 hours of engagement with public and private schools throughout Seattle. During the Company's Performances Season, formal and informal discussions with audiences, known as "Talk Backs," audience members have an opportunity to ask questions and share points of view with the Artistic Director, Donald Byrd, artistic collaborators and designers, Company dancers, guest artists, and guest moderators.
