Cardiac Services: HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital provides comprehensive cardiovascular services from diagnosis to surgery to rehabilitation and wellness. HSHS St. Elizabeth's is accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, a professional organization focused on improving care for patients with acute coronary syndromes and teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack. HSHS St. Elizabeth's, in partnership with Prairie Heart and Vascular Institute, continues to add envelope-pushing technologies and new procedures to lead the region in heart care, including TAVR (trans aortic valve replacement). TAVR makes it possible to replace an aortic valve without opening the patient's chest. In this minimally invasive procedure, a tube is simply inserted in the groin and routed to the aorta for the valve replacement. Prairie also brought the world's smallest pacemaker, the Micra TPS, and the CardioMEMS monitoring system for heart failure patients to the region over the past year. The Electrophysiology Lab is outfitted with a low radiation dose Bi-Plane angio suite where complicated procedures can be performed to treat a full spectrum of heart arrhythmias and implant cardiac devices to serve patients with irregular heartbeats. Other services provided include cardiac catheterization, stent placement, stress testing, pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), electrocardiography, coronary artery bypass graft (open heart) surgery and cardiac rehabilitation. During FY 2024, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital performed 44,898 Cardiology procedures, 8,339 Cardiac Cath Lab procedures and had 6,606 Cardiac Rehab visits.

Emergency Services: HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital Emergency Department is open around the clock to treat serious injuries or symptoms requiring emergent treatment. In an emergency, seconds matter. HSHS St. Elizabeth's partnership with local EMS teams allows paramedics and EMTs to initiate quick alert processes for heart attack and stroke. These alerts are activated so patients can be seen quickly treated in the field and continue care at our facility. Our emergency department staff includes doctors, nurses and technicians who are specially trained in caring for patients facing life-threatening and other emergency situations. St. Elizabeth partners with Vituity to provide physician management and expertise in providing high quality care. With leading edge technology at our fingertips, we can process x-rays, CT scans and other diagnostic tests accurately and quickly, allowing faster diagnosis and treatment in a wide range of other areas, including stroke, heart attack, shortness of breath, motor vehicle and other accidents, broken bones, abdominal pain, lacerations, and mental health problems. In FY 2024, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital Emergency Department had 44,365 visits and admitted 7,502. The Convenient Care in O'Fallon, an offsite facility, had 21,926 visits.
