St Francis Animal Sanctuary

St. Francis Animal Sanctuary has a transport and fostering program in order to further its mission with limited resources. The organization has 24 acres; however there is limited space due to its no-kill mission. Foster families provide more capacity for SFAS allowing them to help more animals. Certain animals may need to be fostered for a variety of reasons, such as they are too young for adoption or in order to recover after a medical procedure. Foster families provide the love and stability these animal need to be happy and healthy, both mentally and physically. When an animal has been in a foster home, it is more confident and social; therefore, it is able to transition into its new home with ease.St. Francis Animal Sanctuary's transport program has saved hundreds of lives by pulling dogs and cats directly from euthanasia lists at small municipal shelters with little to no funding. Our focus is on large, harder-to-place breeds that often have the fewest options in these facilities. Once rescued, the animals enter our transport network, connecting them with trusted rescue partners across the country. In many cases, these pets are welcomed straight into loving homes. This program has made a measurable impact on the live-release rates of municipal shelters throughout the Gulf South and is a cornerstone of our mission to help the region become fully no-kill.

St. Francis Animal Sanctuary holds adoption days various times a month around its geographic region for select animals. SFAS looks for responsible and caring people to provide rescued animals a second chance at happiness. The organization expects all of the animals to become an integral part of their new family. SFAS has basic guidelines that are considered to qualify a person for adoption. If an individual qualifies for adoption, a legally binding adoption agreement is signed and an adoption fee is remitted.
