EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT - The Emergency Department is a continuous operation department that must be staffed and able to receive patients at all hours of the day. The department is comprised of specially trained nurses and physicians who are supported by departments representative of the gamut of our Ministry. This team can rapidly identify, treat, and/or stabilize emergency medical conditions in patients ranging in age from newborns to centenarians and sees an average of 800 patients per month. As a critical access hospital, our Ministry has been able to provide lifesaving care to our community as well as serve as a local, and familiar, entry point into the juggernaut that is the healthcare system. Additionally, the department serves as a community resource for those struggling with substance use disorders, addiction related concerns, and acute mental health crisis through rapid identification of needs and provision of resources or transfer to specialty care facilities.
SURGERY CENTER - St. Joseph's Hospital Highland has a high functioning, high performing surgical team, using the latest technology and modern facilities to provide excellent care close to home. With 12 pre/post bays, 2 ORs and a stand-alone endoscopy room, we are able to provide a wide range of specialties for our community. We are the only hospital in the metro east to utilize the Mako Robot for orthopedics, which is the gold standard for joint replacement. In addition to our robust orthopedic program, we offer general surgery, gastrointestinal, gynecology, podiatry, ophthalmology and other procedures as needed. We provide exceptional patient care in our department and continue to strive for excellence in all of our quality measures. In FY24, we performed 1,910 surgeries which was almost 10% ahead of FY23.
