Mission
To collect, preserve, research and interpret the history of st marys county, maryland holding these collections in trust for the use and education of the public.
Programs

Preservation and maintenance of the historic archives of st. Mary's county, md. The archives are open to the public free of charge for individual research. Volunteer researchers are also available to assist visitors and provide research services to members and others for a nominal fee. Select archives assets are also available online through the society's website.
Educational programs for members and the public, including "historically speaking" a series of lectures produced in partnership with the smcm center for democracy and member meetings that feature programs that explore topics related to local history.
Stewardship of historic tudor hall mansion, an 18th century home that serves as the historical society's headquarters/museum and home to the archives and research center. The property is listed on the national register of historic places. The mansion is open to the public three days per week.
