Public Relations: We had almost 80 volunteers contribute approximately 1,000 hours this year, both for land management activities and improvements to a property recently purchased. Volunteers were reached out to for upcoming events both through Facebook and an email database of over 200 volunteers. SCCLC provided free public access access on over 1500 acres for hiking, hunting, cross country skiing, birding and other outdoor based activities. Our trails and parking lots were well maintained. Mailed over 500 newsletters. We have been updating our website and maintaining a Facebook page. Kiosks are maintained at the main entrances of all our properties. Two high school Ecology scholarship awards were granted. We participated in the local annual River Road Farm Crawl and co-sponsored a Wildflower hike and a First Day hike with Wild Rivers Conservancy. A graduate student concluded the geologic research he has been doing on our land. We had a very successful capital campaign in which we reached out to potential donors, the community at large and those actively using Standing Cedars properties.
Land Protection: We have purchased a property which is surrounded by Standing Cedars land on 3 sides and is completely surrounded by protected land. We have reached a 3-year agreement with a local producer to farm a 30-acre field we have and assist us with restoring it to prairie after cultivation. We also began working with a landowner to implement a new conservation easement and have continued to update documentation and and compliance for the other conservation easements we hold. We continue to monitor the local area for additional conservation easements and acquisitions of vulnerable land.
